Q: Are fees covered under OHIP or other private insurance companies?

A: Our services are not covered under OHIP in Ontario but they may be covered, or partially covered, through various private insurance plans that you may have through your work place or through a plan that you may have purchased independently on your own. It would be important to check this first before making an appointment. John Stapleford is Registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. - top -

Q: How long are the telephone interviews?

Q: How frequently are interviews made?

A: Interviews are usually held every week to 10 days. - top -

Q: How long does the counselling process go on?

A: Although some people wish to continue for quite some time and others are involved very briefly, the overall average involvement is about 2-3 months which may involve approximately 6-8 interviews. - top -

Q: Do I do most of the talking while the counsellor mostly listens?

A: Not necessarily. You will find that the interviews are very interactive with both you and the counsellor talking. The counsellor listens to your concerns and your comments and then provides a forum for the discussion of alternate perspectives and insights to assist in understanding the issues that you are bringing forward. - top -

Q: What if my partner does not want to come for counselling?

A: We encourage both partners to participate in counselling together. However, when one partner declines, we ask permission of the person requesting service if we can contact their partner directly. If permission is granted, we telephone the hesitant partner to personally invite them to attend. As well, we provide them with an overview of what we are trying to accomplish with counselling within a safe and supportive environment. In most instances, the hesitant partner joins the counselling process. If he/she does not, then the person requesting service is encouraged to proceed with counselling for themselves directly in order to deal with their issues of concern. - top -

Q: Are services offered to children and teenagers?

A: No. We only offer services to persons 19 years of age or older. - top -
